It’s that time of year again. For those who missed out on Blog World Expo in New York comes the West Coast event – Blog World Expo 2011 in Los Angeles on November 3rd – 5th. Save an additional 20% using discount code KIKOLANI20.
Why I’m Attending Blog World Expo in LA
Last year was my first Blog World, and I have to say it was a blast! Here are just some of my favorite highlights.
1. Meet your favorite bloggers in person.
I’m about as shy as they come in terms of being an extrovert online but an introvert in person. Yet I still got to meet some awesome bloggers in person at Blog World.

Not only did I meet some great individuals, but I even got to have breakfast with the majority of the Social Media Examiner team!

Needless to say, it’s a great time to strengthen bonds with your readers, mentors, collaborators, and inspirations! This is no doubt the most rewarding and valuable part of the Blog World Expo!
2. Learn from the experts.
If it was anything like last year, by the time they post the conference schedule, you will find many time slots where you will wish there is more than one of you so you can attend multiple sessions simultaneously.

And if there’s a time slot where you don’t find something of interest, even better – you can go out and meet more people!
3. Get books signed by your favorite bloggers / authors.
I’m a huge book nerd. Since there are lots of bloggers who are also published authors, chances are they will have a book signing at Blog World.

4. Talk to your favorite brands.
Lots of big names take a spot in the exhibitor hall to meet their users and customers in person!

Be sure to bring business cards to – many do some major giveaways of free iPads, iPhones, books, and other great items!
5. Take home some great schwag.
Speaking of free stuff, be sure to bring an extra suitcase. You can pick up lots of goodies in the exhibit hall!

And this was just my first time. I’m sure this year I’ll do much better!

If anyone wants to attend, I am sending them here to read this first and get their pass here. Thanks for the great write-up and getting the excitement of Blogworld going for us, Kristi. Oh I do wish to go because I get to see YOU again!! Did you submit to speak? I really think you should.

Thanks Farnoosh! I decided not to submit anything this year… just not enough time to prepare something of quality like I would like to. I hope you get to go too – it would be great seeing you!

You’ve done an excellent job of laying out all the benefits of attending Blog World Kristi.
I strongly suggest that people get a room reservation ASAP, even if they are on the fence about attending. I went with the Sheraton since it was the closest to the venue and is four star. If necessary you can cancel as long as it’s at least 72 hours before.

Good point John. I’m not too familiar with LA, so I went ahead and booked my hotel even before I got my pass. It doesn’t charge ahead of time, so you’re in the clear so long as you remember to cancel if you decide not to go in the end.
Sounds like fun and a good learning and sharing thing. If I lived closer to LA it would be something to think about. A little spendy, but if you get in on it early if you live in the area you could save a few bucks it looks like. Too bad they didn’t do smaller venues in our local areas or cities for a bit cheaper. I would think about attending something like that. I know it is a bit down the road yet, but give us an update after you attend it.

Yeah, I would have preferred Vegas again, but I’m sure they’ll make LA worthwhile.
I feel after reading your post that you got great pleasure visiting the expo and the pics are great and they really inspire to take part in it. I am going to think it over.
I wish there was a Blog World in Canada. Looks like an awesome opportunity to learn from the best and meet great people. I’ll do my best to attend the expo in New York next year. (Since I’m from Canada – east coast)
Thanks,
Anita

Hi Anita. The East Coast one is probably a better fit, although the West Coast one has always been the largest – it will be interesting to see if less people attend because of the one earlier this year or if everyone will still flock to it because it has been known as the biggest.
I would really love to go to this… unfortunately, LA is a little bit far for me (being in Manchester, UK).
Maybe next year… I can use it as an excuse for a holiday

Hey Stacey. You might be more interested in the East Coast event. Earlier this year they held one in New York – they might be planning the same for next year.
Dude. Just submitted #ProjectAwesome – http://ar.gy/hire – as my speaker proposal. Hope to see (and meet) you there. You were a HUGE help w/ my blog during #blogchat

Hey Kristi, if they were to hold one in Adelaide I would be in like fly
]
Too bad they didn’t have one when we were in California in March, I would have gone for sure. Don’t know if I would have met anyone though, personally that is as I am much too shy to approach anybody.

I’m a major introvert in person myself Sire.
I still managed the nerve to talk to some people there last year, and I’m thinking this year will be even easier.
I’m shy, too! Were it not for me rooming with Marlee at the NY expo, I wouldn’t have met anyone except for those I sat next to in the sessions. It’s nice to make plans to meet up, but of course, I was too shy to do that so I had to rely on Marlee’s outgoing personality!
I’d like to be added to your list, Kristi because in all likelihood I am going to go.

The best thing about expo like this is that you get to meet experts from the field and learn something from them. This is an opportunity that you shouldn’t miss.

Hey Kristi,
I’m so excited that it will be in my backyard this year. I have 1 more day to decide whether to throw my hat in the ring for a proposal in the Real Estate section.
Meeting you was at the Social Media Examiner breakfast was definitely a highlight of my Blog World experience last year.

Its good to see how blogger from on state are making their own social offline communities which feels really good because of the change. Their should be separate unions of blogger for all the states of the countries where they can enjoy the fresh air with their fellow bloggers and discuss other aspects of life rather than blogging
The intangibles of “face-to-face” just can’t be replaced.
It looks like you know how to make the most of the event and get your money’s and experience’s worth.

The idea of going to meet your favorite bloggers at a convention got me thinking about a strange phenomenon, and I wonder if a term has been coined for it:
When you read someone’s work for so long and even communicate with them over time, there can be a slightly unnerving disconnect when you actually meet them in person. This is similar to the effect that can happen when you listen to someone’s voice on the radio for years and years and feel that you know them somewhat intimately, only to meet them face to face and watching them speak ends up being significantly different from the mental image of them speaking that you’ve had for ages; you feel a strange disconnect.
Know what I mean?? I would like to coin a phrase for this if none exists!
Anyway, good luck at the Blog Expo!

Hey Kristi – I attended BWENY and am hoping to go to BWELA, too. I really enjoyed it. I hope we get to meet. It would be crazy though to have to go all the way to LA just to meet when we could meet in Arizona!
Cheers,
Tia
