Fall Colors

Fall Leaves in Toyana Park, Niigata, Japan by shinyaiYour colors changed
When you drew near
That final moment of life
Like leaves on the trees
After the summer season
Had come and passed
But the colors were
Not bright nor radiant
Rather pale, drained of
Rosy red blood cells
Beneath the surface
The only beauty
To be remembered
From that day
Is the knowledge
That you were released
From your suffering

I’m sure this is a deep, metaphorical poem with a lot of symbolism and meaning, but I’m just going to say it…

huh?

@Wesley: I probably should have thrown in an explanation with this one. My grandmother recently passed away in a nursing home, and the other day someone wrote on Twitter that nursing homes would be more beautiful if people changed colors as violently as the leaves in the fall do. This is my reaction to that statement.

Its summer here in the southern hemisphere, and its about rebirth and new beginnings. Your post and especially your comment reminds me about the great circle of life, and how life continually cycles through the many processes of birth, life, death, and rebirth.

I’m sure your connection to your gran means that you’ll be together again in flesh

When I first read it, I thought it was about how autumn died into winter, but after reading your comment I can see how its on a deeper level. My grandmother also just passed (yesterday in fact), so I can really feel the poem. Thank-you :)

@Haroun: It is a circle indeed. I recently thought about the fact that she saw me born, and I saw her pass, and it is like a completed circle.

@Dan: I am sorry for your loss… and you’re welcome.

@Aldhis: I hope you like the photo I chose. It was taken in Japan, where my grandmother is from, so it seemed fitting.

I remember you writing about your grandmother’s death. This poem really says much about your feelings. You really are quite a poet. BTW, thank you for sharing the website of smiles. I’ve checked it out and love it.

That is a very nice poem and a very intriguing concept. I think a strong case could be made for it.

The unfortunate wheel of life is something that we all have to go through. Some take it better than others as they seem to be more at piece within themselves. I have the impression that your grandmother was one of those.

@SEO Services, Wayne, Steve, Adrian: Thanks.

@Debbie: Writing was one of my primary ways of dealing with the experience. I am glad you like that site. :)

@Sire: She always said she would pass in the fall, and that was her least favorite season.

@Kuanhoong: Your photography is absolutely beautiful!

@Chloe: Thanks, I will have to check out your work too!

Fall seems like my kind of weather. I don’t like too cold or too hot.

@Roshan: Spring and fall are my favorite times, even though they aren’t that long in the desert. :)
