April Fools Recap

April foolery was amuck all over the web yesterday, with articles on popular blogs selling out to Google, being purchased by the Christian Monitor, shutting down Third Tribe, creating Facebook status optimizers, and announcing Google’s own SEO agency. Those are just a small few of many – TechCrunch has a nice roundup of more for those interested in the best online April Fools pranks.

Coming Up on the Kikolani Network

Next week, we return to our regularly scheduled programming with posts by yours truly. I thank all of my recent guest authors for the wonderful articles while I was off posting elsewhere and dealing with some personal issues. Upcoming topics for next week will include how businesses should use social media and why bloggers should be utilizing HootSuite.

Rainbow Bridge Angels

On a personal note, the issues I mentioned above had to do with my pets. Several weeks ago, I found out our oldest cat, Stalker, had cancer. It was pretty hard to deal with, especially since he was my first cat that I adopted 9 years ago. By the time I had almost come to terms with Stalker, we found out our 8 month old kitten Tasha had FIP, a fatal and incurable disease. Within the next week, we lost both of them.

As part of the healing process, I created Rainbow Bridge Angels, a site dedicated to the pets that have touched my family’s lives. The following are two videos of these wonderful kitties – cute kitten moments with Tasha and a funny clip of how Stalker would follow me everywhere I went through the house (with Tasha following him).

Oh Kristi, I am so sorry for your loss of both Stalker and Tasha in the same week. They are adorable. The video of Stalker following you through the house had me laughing through my tears! And I love how Tasha just hung back and then coolly followed the both of you.

Rest in Peace to Stalker and Tasha.

Thanks for the sweet message. I cried a lot putting the clips together, but it was very cathartic at the same time. They will definitely missed.

    Hi Kristie,
Thanks for the great resources as usual. I got an email from Amplify saying that they offered blogs and I’m considering signing up for one. The Google Buzz post from Ching Ya is one that I’ve linked to also in my guest post at FamousBloggers. I’m working on another guest post so I’m heading over to the Infographics Showcase for some ideas.

I’ve been waiting for this post today, Cheers!

Thank you for another great mashup post. I am always amazed at how much you can get done. I know that was made especially tough by the recent passing of Stalker and Tasha. No matter how many pets we lose it is still worth the love we share with them while they’re with us and it never gets any easier.

Keep your heart and eyes open as beloved pets often come back into our lives – sometimes repeatedly. Mine do and I know about and have read of others who have experienced that too.

My friends have a non-profit animal rescue called Paws Patrol that is always enlisting volunteers to feed orphaned puppies or to foster cats, dogs, kittens or puppies or a ranch home for “unadoptable” cats (usually great hunters who don’t like to be locked up). They work with Petsmart Charities and have adoptions there.

I see they could use some help getting more information and especially about and contact pages going on their blog. Giving linkluv to good causes and non-profits is something else I know we both do whenever we can.

I love the idea of them coming back into our lives. I have always felt comforted by the Rainbow Bridge poem though, as it suggests we’ll be reunited with our pets one day. Nothing like the thought of having all of my cats, dogs, hamsters, and other small pets waiting to greet me.

I was planning on adding more animal related links to my new site. I think that people who find it looking for the poem will be open in the future for adoption.

I had a great time reading through all the April fools pranks. While a few of them had popped up in my feed reader, I did miss a few – so it was good to go and laugh through the practical jokes.

Kristi, I’m very sorry to hear about the loss of your two cats.

I have a golden retriever who is approaching 14 and has multiple health issues. I also lost my other golden retriever to cancer a few years ago.

It’s so good to be back here again. Life has been busy and not easy to keep up with everything when you have both off/online life going at the same time. Wish I could have 48 hours to spare to keep up with all the readings. :-) You’ve been a big help for compiling this, Kristi. Again, I thank you for your kind link love as always.

I was so April-fooled this year with some of the articles online. Problogger’s was one of them until I read the comments below. Came across a few more, even Hootsuite played a 3D trick on us! Wonder what will happen if all of them are true.

That’s a lovely video. You must have missed them much. *hugs* I can see how much you’ve been a blessing to their lives and theirs to yours. Treasure the memory and we have now at this moment. You take care too, Kristi.
