Kristi, In regards to the W3 Total Cache, I’ve never used any of the cache programs that are out there for wordpress. Main reason being… I don’t understand the allure about it. I mean.. doesn’t wordpress by default already cache the website content? It seems so strange to me that a software company as good as wordpress who have always been improving their code, would not try to improve their cache? I don’t know I’ve never been able to find somewhere that explains it to us clearly why it’s advantageous to use it.

WordPress has their own system, but it’s not strong enough to withstand a huge burst of traffic all at once, like if you were lucky enough to make the frontpage of Digg. W3 Super Cache used to (or maybe still does) have a banner that you can add to your site that says Digg proofed or Digg ready, something to that effect.
