In a follow-up to my previous post, a hummingbird nest and babies, here are new photos of the hummingbird babies. They grow very fast… and it is very near time for them to spread their wings and fly.
Also, be sure to check out the hummingbird videos – the short capture of the mother feeding the babies is the featured video on my channel.

ornithologists and ecologists are in need of such photo resources.keep it up!
@smashill: Thanks. I’ve been tweaking the site since last week, I’m glad the changes are noticeable for the better.
@Stephen: They are fascinating, since they are very tricky to photograph, considering how fast they move. I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to witness them growing up.
@Kim: Thanks! I’m glad I get the chance to share something I consider quite rare with everyone.
@Jonathan: You’re welcome. I have never been much of a bird watcher before, but this opportunity has definitely gotten me interested.
@Gabrielem: That was one of the funny parts. Before their eyes were open, when the babies heard the camera coming, they would think it was their mom and open their mouths up for food. Now that their eyes are open, they just look at me and go, there’s the camera lady again.
@ponnuswami: I hope some of them stumble along to this page and get some use out of them. Or on my flickr site.
So…how exactly are you taking these photos? Climbing a tree? Or do hummingbirds nest on really low branches? (And if so, how do they keep from getting eaten by ground animals?)
Love the pics.

You are so blessed to have seen this. It is an utter miracle and the photos are the best I’ve ever seen. Simply lovely.

Thats a real sweet post. Love the way you have taken the pictures. You must have been very cautious not to scare them away.

The photos and videos are great its amazing how much they have grown in just 2 weeks. Its starting to look like quite a snug fit in the nest now with the two of them.
That’s really sweet. Tell me you didn’t climb the tree to get them Kristi?

@YogaforCynics, Ben: Thanks. No, I don’t have to climb a tree. They are in a small tree, right at eye level for me. They’re high enough nothing can find them, and they’re pretty deep within the branches, so they’re safe.
@Robin: Thanks! I do consider it a very lucky experience.
@Make Money: I’ve been super paranoid since the beginning not to do anything to scare them. The mom flies above me sometimes when I’m taking photos, and I’d like to think that means she is observing, but approves.
@khaled: They have grown fast, and they barely seem to fit in their comfortably anymore. It’s almost time for them to leave home.
Wow Kristi,
Thanks for doing this follow up post. Very cool pictures.
I feel bad though that I still haven’t refilled our hummingbird feeder, but I’ll do it tomorrow… I promise!
I’ve also got to see if I can find a nest!
Very, very cool! ~ Steve

@Steve: I hope it is refilled now! You never know what you could be missing out on.
@Gennaro: The mother has been away more often, letting me get closer to the babies. Probably because there is no more room in the nest.
@Robin: Thanks!
Hi Kristi,
The babies are so cute!
@Zunnur: Thanks! They are all grown up now.
what do you think of environmental activism,Kristi?
Kristi, this is great. Look at the love that’s reflected from such place. If only human understand this -as birds do- we would have seen a totally different world.

Those pictures rock! It takes a ton of patience, and ingenuity to get pictures of hummingbirds like that. Thanks for sharing.
They are still there or they flew away already?
Wow.. those are very beautiful pictures! I would like to raise a few of those hummingbirds.
