Hi, My name is Jack. I am 8 and in 3rd grade. I found a seed pod at school in the courtyard. We were looking to find what type of tree it was from. Mine is reddish orange and has bright shiny red seeds inside (like M&M's). The seed pod opened yesterday and we found the seed and today another seed was coming out. I think it is drying out in the house. I hope to plant a seed next spring and watch it grow.
Thanks for the website.
P.S. The tree was very neat!!

@Ulla: You're welcome.

@Sire: I think the one I photographed would cover the palm of your hand at least. I should have a photo of the full tree in my files somewhere. I'll browse around.

@Uncle Pete: It does look a little freaky, now that everyone mentions it. :)

@Evita: I kind of wish I had touched it too. It looks a bit fuzzy.

@Wayne: I'm pretty sure it is filled with stuff, maybe like tossing a peach with texture.

@Tucsoncarinsuranceguy: Thanks! Hope you enjoy future posts.

@Khaled: You're so lucky. I miss those trees in Mississippi.

@Shannon: Most people have just photos of the blossoms, so I thought it would be neat to show where they came from. The pod is very unique!

@Ben: I did, the last time I visited my old hometown in Mississippi. I think it was from a tree at a house I used to live in.

The buds can grow up to about 3" in length, we have quite a few Magnolia trees in our local Botanical gardens, they are very beautiful when they bloom.

Hi Kristi!

Wow this is so unique! It never ceases to surprise me how diverse nature is! The shapes, the patterns, the textures...are all so exquisite!

It's hard to believe that this is something from Earth! It looks almost alien and capable of having a life of its own!
