The clouds want nothing more
Than to shower the earth below
With the heavy rains it holds within
Sometimes, they suppress that urge
Waiting for the earth to show need
Letting its plants wilt, rivers dry,
Foundation parch and crack
When the earth has displayed
That its thirst has become unbearable
It is then the clouds will pour again
Filling the lands below with all it needs

Don’t know if there is a larger allusion I should be getting but…
I like it! Great imagery and I have definitely experienced something like that in some of my own relationships.

Too bad that there isn’t a way that we could perhaps persuade those clouds to release it’s precious water a little earlier as I reckon that sometimes they wait a little too darned long. Perhaps a rain dance as you read your poetry?
This is a great outdoors poem, it’s short and to the point. I don’t think the clouds know Iraq needs rain, lol. Great poem

@Ryan – Most of my writing is pretty straightforward, but this one is more metaphorical. You got the meaning right on though!

@Sire – I’d like to think that every time I wash my truck, I inspire rain in the area. Usually just enough of a sprinkle to make the vehicle look dirty again.
@Tony – I have a lot of writing that is very short. Sometimes I think it is better that way, as it leaves lots of room for other interpretations.
@hangingonahyphen – Your writing is beautiful. Anyone who likes my poem should take a look at your story – My Rain Dancing Days. Enjoying the rain is a wonderful experience.
@Debbie – There is definitely more appreciation for rain here. Where I used to live, it rained a lot. Once I was here in Phoenix for a full year, I really enjoyed rainfall for the first time because of it’s rarity.
