Soldier

Twenty seven years
The world had
To mold you, to know you
What you gave back
Was the definition
Of conviction and sacrifice
So unselfishly
Helping free those bound
To ensure a better future
For complete strangers
You gave us a hero
A man defined
Not by fame or wealth
But by honor and devotion
It would be a pleasure
To shake your hand
But that will have to wait
Until the hereafter
For you laid down your life
For your belief
In something that
So many have died for
And will continue to fight for
The freedom of your friends,
Family, and country

Beautifully written. Thank you for sharing that. It’s a wonderful tribute.

Yes it is indeed a beautifully written poem. I attempt a bit of poetry on my blogs at times but nothing that compares to that.

It is a shame that there are many who do not appreciate the sacrifices that a soldier has to go through and there were times when people actually condemned them for their heroic efforts.

@Vered, Michelle - You are welcome.

@Sire - I think that it is one thing to have opposition to the war, but everyone should still respect and honor those people that fight for what they believe in, and for their country.

That is so true Kristi, thankfully people are not as bad these days as they used to be back in the time of the Vietnam war. I remember with disgust how some people actually spat at the returning soldiers. Morons!
