Mansion near the mountain top
I wonder what goes on
Inside those brick walls of yours
Vast amounts of space you give
Is there someone who makes use
Of every exquisite square inch
Or are there empty rooms
That just collect dust and darkness
Does someone take time
From their busy day
To walk outside on your balcony
Breathing in the fresher air
Soaking in the desert landscape
Tall cacti, red rocks, green brush
On days when the weather
Brings carpets of dust
Roaring thunder, lightning
Will those inside you watch
Through the large bay windows
On the clear nights
With the full moon rising
Or the new moon hiding
Does someone appreciate
The bright stars away from all
The distorting city lights
I hope that whoever inhabits you
Beautiful mansion, appreciates
The gifts you have to offer
And that you are, in return
Filled with their happiness

Wow. I’ve never thought of a house as being sentient, or having feelings, but you’re really captured something, here.
It makes me wonder what stories the mansion might be able to tell. More importantly, it makes me wonder what kinds of stories my own home would tell of we who live in it.

What I want to know kristi is what exactly inspired you to write this poem? Is the mansion a reality or is it just poetic inspiration?
@MormonFoodie – I was told that certain cultures believe that everything, even inanimate objects, have a life force or spirit in them. I agree with this, especially in the case of houses, because they provide shelter, sanctuary, and a place to build your life and family.
@Vered – I’d like to think, going along with the theme of everything having a spirit, that we should appreciate our homes for the things they provide us.
@Sire – It happened while I was driving one day. I just saw this beautiful home on the side of a mountain. Gorgeous bay windows and a great view from them. I imagined what it would be like to live there, the things I would appreciate inside that home, and it just inspired me to write this.

That makes perfect sense. I come up with these brainwaves and inspirational ideas but by the time I get to the keyboard I’ve forgotten them. What I really need is a mental dictaphone that records thought waves.

@Sire: I’ve had some people tell me they just call themselves and leave a voicemail of their inspirational thought, just so they don’t forget it later.
That is so true, the only problem is that I have so many inspirational thoughts that I would send myself broke.

I have left home for a year.I always dream having a walk around the house.
