The Waiting Lover

The lighting here is bad
nonetheless, here she sits
just so she can see him
as soon as he arrives.

The excitement mounts
when she see lights coming
around the corner
but dips as she realizes
it is the wrong vehicle
that raised her hopes.

Now your neighbor is out
smoking on his patio
with no clue that the girl
at the bench is writing
about him as a part of
this scene of anticipation
a part of a play called
‘The Waiting Lover’.

Her character writes
with her hair down
hiding the wide smile
when she sees him
pulling up into a spot
music blaring, then silent.

He steps out, and comes
up the sidewalk.

She goes up to him
wraps her arms around him
and kisses him.

Thus begins another
wonderful evening
as they will be together
ending the day
just as it began
in each other’s arms.
