Why Reinventing The Traffic Generation Wheel Is A Bad Idea And What To Do Instead

This is a guest post by Ruan Oosthuizen.

Being a blogger, experienced or absolute beginner, traffic generation will always have to be part of your online strategy. You spend hours researching and then create excellent content. It takes hard work to put killer content out there. Then you will have to try and put that content in front of the eyes of your target audience. You will need to drive traffic, somehow and sometime sooner or later.

Driving traffic is not easy. Driving targeted returning traffic that converts well is not something everyone succeeds at. The good news is that some does and does so well.

So what if you could follow those who do it well and do exactly the same?

Yes, you heard me right. What if it’s not necessary to re-invent the traffic generation wheel and what if there is a way you can look at exactly what highly successful traffic generators do, follow them step by step and do exactly the same and get the same or even better results?

Sure, but how on earth would those people tell me what they do and how they do it?

This is where I can maybe help you out. Yes, you can go out and start following highly successful traffic generators out there (which you should do anyway) and learn everything they know in terms of traffic generation. The only thing is who do you go and follow? And more importantly, how long will it take you to master all of their strategies and skills they have that are the driving force behind the tons of traffic that they each generate on a daily basis?

I have worked for the last couple of months and made things quite easier for you guys. I went to the exact guys and ladies I follow on a daily basis and have been following since I started online more than a year ago. I am talking about people with the physical and social proof that what they do works and it works well.

I am talking about guys and ladies like Darren Rowse (ProBlogger), Derek Halpern (Social Triggers), Jon Morrow (Copyblogger), Ana Hoffman (Traffic Generation Café), Kiesha Easley (We Blog Better), and Jane Sheeba (Problogging Success), just to name a few. In fact, I went to 10 top bloggers out there, proposed to them my idea of compiling an eBook containing and discussing each of their personal traffic generation strategies, exactly how they themselves still use them on a regular basis and then have them show you step by step how you can follow exactly what and how they do it so you can do the same to get even better results.

The eBook is called The Best Traffic Generating Strategies By Top Bloggers | A Tribute and is due to be released early next month.

And now, I have a surprise for you!

At the moment I am running a small competition with the eBook on the post I have written about it, containing the foreword and a little more. By completing a few simple tasks, you stand a chance of winning yourself a free copy of the eBook even before it gets released early next month.

These simple tasks include the following:

  1. Read this post. Tell me in the comments what you thought of the Foreword by Dave.
  2. Share this post with your friends on Twitter and Facebook and make sure that @RuanOosthuizen is added to the tweet so I will know you did.
  3. Give me at least one reason why you would like to have a copy of this highly effective and valuable eBook with the information it contains.
  4. Subscribe to my FREE Email Course on Complete Domain Management by filling out your details in one of the subscription boxes on my site, as I will do the announcement of the winners within an email to my subscribers.

That’s all there is to it! As simple as that! The one with the most enthusiasm scores the most voting points!

Important Notice

Of all, to me personally this is the most exciting part of everything…

50% of all earnings from this eBook will go to Hand Of Hope which is the missions arm of Joyce Meyer Ministries in my effort to help those in desperate need, all around the world, with essentials that we so often don’t appreciate as we should.

I want you to be aware of this important part of this project and if you feel that you would like to give a helping hand, feel free to purchase a copy of the eBook upon its release and be a part of helping others in desperate need.

My sincerest appreciation to you in advance.

So you think you’re up to it to learn from the best?

Looking forward to meet you soon and in the meantime, all the best with your traffic generation success!

Actually I would be interested in this book. I remember you were offering it for free for those who were able to answer some of your questions. I think I never got back to it. Are you still running it? I wonder how those top bloggers you mentioned get their traffic from? The thing is, will they leak out their secrets?

      Hi Shalu,

Well, that is what this post is all about, promoting the chance to win yourself a free copy of the eBook even before it gets released. All you have to do is hop on over to my site and following the simple requirements outlined in the post in order to stand a chance of winning a free copy.

Leaking out their secrets is exactly what this book is also all about Shalu. I have put together each individual blogger’s personal strategies into one eBook, explaining how they each use them on a regular basis and then showing you step by step on how you can do exactly the same… πŸ˜‰

      Hi Tory,

You have an interesting point of view here indeed! πŸ˜‰

I do still beg to differ slightly. As Derek Halpern puts it, “you don’t need unique ingredients but you need a unique recipe.” In essence you are just bringing your own recipe to the table using the exact same ingredients. Or how I like to put it, “the concept of the wheel stays the same, you’re just a different manufacturer bringing a different type of rubber to the mix.”

    Hi Ruan,

i have few queries regarding this and hope will get the answer for it from you.

From step 1 under “1. Find Out How Much Traffic Your Keyword Gets” if we Click on β€œOnly show ideas closely related to my search terms” box, and see the see the global monthly searches, both searches results are same to click on β€œOnly show ideas ..” and not to select this option, so with this scenario we should select it or not?? and what “Match Type” option we should select “Broad” “[Exact]” “Phrase” for better market plan search?

Sounds like you’re referring to the Google Keyword Tool here…

I have to admit that I am using Market Samurai and haven’t used the Google Keyword Tool to full extent, but my logic tells me the following:

I would ignore the checkbox “only show show results closely related”…then I would set the results to display global monthly as that’s what I’m after and then finally I would select “exact” match as I want as targeted traffic as possible.

This is personal preference though and one can really use what works best for you personally based on trial error and testing…

      Hope this helps!

    Hi Ruan,

I was surprised to read your post with selfless motive. Truly, nobody will care to guide someone who approaches for a piece of advice which may result in creating competition for him/her. You were right in saying that one has to reinvent the traffic generation wheel. Same mantra will not stay for long with heavy competition around for supremacy.

Hats to you for this post,

    Hello Ruan,

How unselfish of you to have posted this!. Really a thought provoking move. For the fear of losing one’s own mileage, none would come forward to part with a piece of advice. In my view, we need not reinvent the traffic generation wheel, as emphasized by you. This may not stand good in the years to come though, as battles are on to gain the top spot.

Thanks a lot for posting this great post,
