7 Things for New & Dedicated Readers

I was tagged by Richard at Makak Media to do the 7 Things People Don’t Know About Me meme. First off, here are the rules for this meme:

Link to your original tagger(s) and list these rules in your post.
Share seven facts about yourself in the post.
Tag seven people at the end of your post by leaving their names and the links to their blogs.
Let them know they’ve been tagged.

This is my third tag (that I know of) and each time, I like to do something a bit different. For this tag, I am going to write about 7 things that new or dedicated readers may not know about me and the history of Kikolani.com.

1. Why I Started Kikolani.com

This blog was originally created as a way to share poetry I had written about the wonderful love story that began in May 2008, when I met the man I will be marrying in 45 days.

2. Psychology

I have been very interested in psychology since taking a general class in my first semester of college. I am intrigued by the way artistic types express themselves – seemingly quiet, shy people who reveal incredibly deep things about themselves via their art, like I always have though writing and poetry. I also believe I am an emotional sponge – someone who absorbs the feeling around them, leaving them with the task of deciphering if those feelings are being internally generated, or externally received.

3. My Techie Side

When my artistic side is taking a breather, my techie side surfaces began to show through with posts about web 2.0, backing up your blog, social networking and blogging tips. As I learn about new ways to improve my blog, I like to share them – anyone who blogs about any topic can benefit from increased technical knowledge to help them get their message to a wider audience.

4. An Attempt at Humor

In my single days (ones that I do not miss all that much), I took a short ride on the highway of internet dating. My frame of mind at the time was if I could get dinner, clothing, insurance rates, travel arrangements, and so many other things online, what was so different about finding a date there? One of the posts I consider my most humorous was inspired by my experience on Match.com.

5. Things That Happen in My Sleep

Outside of experiencing sleep paralysis, I have some pretty vivid, crazy, and bizarre dreams. Two of the interesting things I have learned about dreams are their ability to interpret physical pain and leave behind emotional residue.

6. Beauty in Sadness

While I do share a lot of my photography on this site, there are some photos I keep private because they are sad. One was a photo of my grandmother’s hands, which I took a day before she passed away – instead of sharing that photo, I shared one of her wedding day in a tribute to her. Another was of a dead bird I saw outside of a tennis court – instead of sharing the photo, I shared the piece of writing it inspired. There was something about the sadness in those images I found beautiful.

7. My Soundtrack

Music can be very influential. It can change the tone of your mood, inspire you, remind you of specific moments in your life, and so on. A while back, I created a soundtrack which included music that related to different scenes of my life from the age of 10 until the present.

Tag, You’re It

So there you have it – some different tidbits of me that relate to the evolution of this site, from when I started it a year ago until now.

In conclusion, here are the seven people I tag to continue this meme: John from Potpolitics, Nutuba from A Day in the Life of Nutuba, Debbie from Heartchoices, Sheryl Lock, Brian from Extreme Ezine, Sire from Wassup Blog, and Wayne John.
